Danny Dyer has revealed that he left EastEnders due to what he called a “crazy” storyline involving his character, Mick Carter, and Janine Butcher, played by Charlie Brooks.
Speaking on Sky’s Smart TV, the 47-year-old actor reflected on his time in the BBC soap. He humorously pointed out, “Mick’s got a kid with Janine, how mad is that?”—prompting laughter from the audience.
Danny then admitted, “That’s why I left. They put me with Janine, and I thought, ‘I’ve got to get out of here.’” The audience erupted in laughter and applause, and he added, “It’s the truth.”
After spending over eight years on the show as Mick Carter, the beloved Queen Vic landlord, Danny’s departure in 2022 followed a series of dramatic events. His final storyline saw Mick reunite with his first love, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), before a high-speed car chase with Janine ended with all three characters plunging into the sea.
Since leaving the soap, Danny has been focusing on a new venture—helping to manage a family-run caravan park in Kent. He joined the team at Priory Hill & Nutts Farm Holiday Park on the Isle of Sheppey, inspired by childhood caravan holidays with his father, Tony.
Recently, he was spotted working hands-on at the park, serving behind the bar, mowing grass, and tackling odd jobs while wearing a branded uniform. His daughter, Dani, 28, is also involved, supporting his efforts.
Speaking to The Mirror, Danny shared his excitement: “I love a caravan and a caravan site, so I’m getting stuck in with my daughter Dani by my side. I’m investing in this place and trying to bring back the classic British holiday.”
He acknowledged the risks, adding, “This could be a massive success or a complete disaster—but you’ve got to roll the dice.”
Dani, who has three children, including twins with West Ham footballer Jarrod Bowen, is backing the venture, saying, “My dad’s got a big personality and can bring people together. Can he make this work? I think he can—unless everyone decides to go to Magaluf instead!”
The entire project is being filmed for an upcoming Sky TV series, The Dyers’ Caravan Park, produced by Expectation Television—the same company behind Amazon Prime’s hit series Clarkson’s Farm.
