Actor Joe Absolom, recognized for his iconic role as Matthew Rose in EastEnders, is set to make a major shift to Emmerdale. Known for his time on the BBC soap from 1997 to 2000, Absolom will now bring his talents to the ITV soap, where he will portray Ray, a character with a mysterious connection to Mackenzie Boyd (played by Lawrence Robb).
Ray’s introduction to the Dales will initially appear harmless, as he claims to be selling farm machinery. However, his true intentions soon become clear, revealing a darker side to his character. According to ITV, Ray will have a composed and charming demeanor, but lurking beneath it is a more dangerous, drug-dealing side.
Absolom expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Emmerdale cast, saying, “It’s a real honor to be part of such a talented team. Emmerdale is an iconic show, and I’m excited to bring Ray to life. I’m looking forward to seeing how my character develops.”
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw also shared her excitement, welcoming Absolom to the show. “Joe is a fantastic actor, and we’re delighted to have him on board. Ray is a complex character—charming on the surface but quickly revealing a much darker side. He’ll certainly leave a lasting impact on the village.”
Absolom has appeared in a variety of roles over the years, including his portrayal of Al Large in Doc Martin and Braden Moore in Code of Silence, proving his versatility across different genres.
This announcement comes on the heels of ITV’s news about a groundbreaking crossover episode between Emmerdale and Coronation Street, making it an exciting time for ITV’s soap operas.
