Just hours before his tragic death, Liam Payne generously donated thousands to help a 28-year-old cancer patient named Jack.
The former One Direction singer died at age 31 after falling from a third-floor balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, two weeks ago. The accident led to serious injuries, causing both internal and external bleeding. Despite his own struggles, Liam took time shortly before his passing to make a difference in someone else’s life.
Liam, known for his caring nature and support for people in need, frequently volunteered and donated to various causes. One of the last people he helped was Jack, who has Stage 4 B-cell lymphoma.
Jack, a former cook, can’t work due to his illness and ongoing treatment, which has strained his finances. He told The Mirror that his first symptom felt like a simple workout injury, so he didn’t think much of it. But when his neck and arm swelled significantly, he decided to seek medical help.
At first, Jack believed his issue was related to exercise, but a CT scan and biopsy brought shocking news—it was cancer. Jack shared, “I went in thinking it was nothing serious, but left with a cancer diagnosis. It was overwhelming, but eventually, I accepted it because there was nothing I could do to change it.”
Known for his kindness and compassion, Jack finds his time in the hospital for chemotherapy and other treatments extremely lonely. “I often struggle with boredom and anxiety,” he said. “Some days, I don’t even have the energy to watch TV or check my phone. On better days, though, I read and even make music to keep busy.”
Jack’s GoFundMe has raised around £26,300 of his £77,600 goal to help with his treatment. He’s grateful for the outpouring of support. “It’s overwhelming, but I’m so thankful for everyone who has sent kind messages or donated,” he said.
Among the donors, Liam Payne stood out by contributing £2,300 just hours before his untimely death. Initially, Jack thought it might be a joke or someone pretending to be Liam. But after the news of Liam’s passing and reports of his recent acts of kindness, it became clear that the donation was real. “Once we saw trusted sources confirming that Liam had donated, it felt surreal. I’m incredibly thankful and feel so lucky,” Jack said.
Even with his own challenges, Liam showed his true, selfless nature. Jack was moved to know that Liam’s final moments included helping others, saying, “It truly warmed my heart knowing he found some peace in helping others right until the end.”
