Love Island star Laura Anderson has spoken on her split from former Hollyoaks actor Gary Lucy, which happened during her pregnancy.
Laura revealed in February 2023 that she was pregnant with Gary’s child, and the Footballers’ Wives star shared a separate statement confirming that Laura and him had split during the 11th season of Celebs Go Dating back in 2022.
Laura delivered a baby girl, Bonnie, in September of that year with Gary present; the couple did not get back together, hence Laura now provides her version of events in an appearance on the Made by Mammas podcast.
“I was so delighted to become a mum, but it probably was the toughest period,” she said. “Although we weren’t together at the time I was announcing I was pregnant, I was hoping we would work things out.
“It sort of seemed like an attack as soon as you put that into the public domain—that we are not together. He did that the day we were scheduled to reveal my pregnancy. [At that time I understood we] weren’t going to work this out.
Laura, who starred in Love Island’s fourth series, said she was ridiculed by internet social media users all through the affair, with numerous bringing up her prior engagement with Dane Bowers and their IVF process.
“You must be so desperate to have children, [Trolls would say] and then because I met Gary and we had a child quickly, it made this narrative,” she said. She was supposed to be planned. I just felt as though I failed slightly before I started.
“She wasn’t even here yet, and I felt as though I hadn’t granted her that fundamental entitlement. Furthermore, I do not believe it is my fault we are not together.
